Chinese businesses suspend ties after Houston Rockets GM shows support for HK protests The general manager of NBA team the Houston Rockets has apologized for his recent comments on Hong Kong. His remarks sparked a huge controversy in China over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Chinese Basketball Association headed by former Rockets star Yao Ming announced that it was suspending cooperation with the Houston team. Meanwhile, CCTV Sports, China's largest sports broadcaster, suspended broadcasts of Houston Rockets games to its mammoth audience of one billion people.

Chinese sponsors also made their sentiments clear by distancing themselves from the NBA team. Li-Ning Company, a leading Chinese sportswear maker, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank each said that they would suspend cooperation with the team.
