Filoli: Historic Estate & Magnificent Gardens in 360 degrees! ~ Tennis Courts and Pool House

Filoli: Historic Estate & Magnificent Gardens in 360 degrees! ~ Tennis Courts and Pool House Following the deaths of William and Agnes Bourn in 1936, the estate was sold the following year to Mr. William P. Roth and Mrs. Lurline Matson Roth, heiress to the Matson Navigation Company. The Roth family built Filoli's botanic collections of camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas, notably in the Woodland Garden, and added the serene swimming pool and the screened-in teahouse.

If you've drive highway 280 past Crystal Springs Reservoir, you have completely missed what's hidden there in the trees. One of the San Francisco Bay Areas most beautiful treasures! Built in 1917, this treasure now belongs to the public and is open for tours!

Filoli is located about 25 miles south of San Francisco and 30 miles north of San Jose. The country estate is at the southern end of Crystal Springs Reservoir and on the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Parking is free but limited; carpooling is encouraged. During anticipated busy days, Filoli may set up (1) over-flow parking (2) timed-ticket entry to prevent going over capacity with parking. The main parking lot is just half a mile from the North Gate Entrance. There are accessible parking spaces closest to the Visitor and Education Center (VEC).

What does "Filoli" mean? Filoli was built for Mr. and Mrs. William Bowers Bourn II whose immense wealth came from the California Gold Rush. Mr. Bourn's personal motto was "FIght for a just cause. LOve your fellow man. LIve a good life." Fi-Lo-Li
