High Speed Steam Train to Warrnambool; Steamrail Warrnambool Westcoaster with R711

High Speed Steam Train to Warrnambool; Steamrail Warrnambool Westcoaster with R711 On the 12th October 2019 Steamrail headed to Warrnambool with steam locomotive R711 as part of the Warrnambool Westcoaster tour. With diesel locomotive S313 coming along for the ride, the train headed to Warrnambool at speeds up to 115km/h, which made for a fast but difficult chase for rail enthusiasts.

The tour is reminiscent of the West Coast Railway days, who operated the Warrnambool service from 1993 to 2004. In the late 90's they used R Class steam locomotives R711 & R766 to haul a Saturday return service to and from Melbourne.

In this video we chase the train to Warrnambool, seeing it at Corio, South Geelong tunnel, Mount Moriac, Pirron Yallock, Camperdown (where pretty much the whole town turned up to see it) and the arrival into Warrnambool.
