As predicted, a high-speed stream of solar wind is buffeting Earth's magnetic field today, Oct. 25th. This is causing moderate G2-class geomagnetic storms and auroras around the Arctic Circle.
The solar wind is flowing from a large hole in the sun's atmosphere, with speeds currently topping 600 km/s. Forecasters expect our planet to remain inside the gaseous stream for at least 24 more hours. Arctic sky watchers should remain alert for auroras through Oct. 26th.
