BPR Antonio Luna CMS frigate missile system is also used by the Korean, Malaysian & Indonesian Navy the launch for the two missile frigates, BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151), will take place at the South Korean shipbuilding shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan on November 8.

This was revealed by the head of the Philippine Navy's (Lt.) public affairs office, Lieutenant Commander Maria Christina Roxas, while seeking renewal of the ship, the sister ship from BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) was launched last May 23 at the same facility.

"On schedule, November 8th is the launch of (BRP Antonio Luna) in Ulsan," he said in a message to the Philippine News Agency on Monday.

Expected in this event are PN flag-in-command officers, Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, and other ranked naval officers.

BRP Antonio Luna is named after the Philippine revolutionary general who is known for his fierce struggle in defense of the homeland of the Philippines.

The Philippines and HHI signed a PHP16 billion contract for two armed frigates with PHP2 billion set aside for its weapons and ammunition systems in October 2016.

BRP Jose Rizal is expected to be sent to PN in April 2020 while BRP Antonio Luna is scheduled for September in the same year.

The steel cutting for BRP Jose Rizal took place on April 1, 2018 while the same ceremony for BRP Antonio Luna took place in November of the same year. These events officially marked the start of the actual frigate development.

Meanwhile, the keel laying ceremony for BRP Jose Rizal took place in October 2018 in official recognition of the start of shipbuilding.

Keel laying refers to the official start of any shipbuilding and is considered to be among the four spotlights of any surface ship with the other three being steel cutting, commissioning, and deactivation.

Both ships are armed with the main 76-mm Super Fast Oto Melara, and the Aselsan SMASH 30-mm long-range secondary cannon, anti-submarine torpedoes, anti-air missiles and ships.

PN Rizal's Jose Frigat class from PN is also equipped with the Hanwha Systems Naval Shield (CMS) combat management system, which integrates all sensors and weapons of the ship and decides which is ideal for dealing with incoming threats.

The system can also detect and track air, surface and subsurface targets and is used in various configurations by the Republic of Korea Navy, the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Indonesian Navy.
