Top 8 public and private beaches in Dubai

1. JBR Beach

You may have been skeptical when The Beach project was first announced, but the stretch of sand at the Jumeirah Beach Residence is generally considered a vast improvement on its predecessor.

There are some wonderful water play areas for kids as well as dozens of restaurants and cafes set back from the sand. You can hire sun loungers and sun shades to then spend the day people watching or dipping in and out of the warm seas on one of the most popular beaches in Dubai.

Get there on the Dubai Tram or park in The Beach parking (you can get your ticket stamped at certain shops or restaurants to qualify for free parking).

FYI this is not to be mistaken for the sail-shaped iconic Jumeirah Beach Hotel further up the coast, another of the top beaches in Dubai to consider visiting.

2. Al Mamzar Beach Park
Head to the Dubai-Sharjah border (traffic shouldn’t be busy on a weekend if you get up early enough!) and for just a few dirhams you can enjoy several beautiful beaches, picnic areas, barbecue facilities, and swimming pools.

Great for little ones as well, as there are plenty of playgrounds away from the beach and lots of shade under the trees if you want to escape the sun.

3. Kite Beach Dubai
If you prefer to keep busy rather than snoozing under the sun, head to Kite Beach Dubai, next to the Burj Al Arab Hotel. It’s very popular with kite surfers (hence its name) but also with Stand-Up Paddle boarders and other water sport enthusiasts. You can hire equipment or book lessons from a number of shops including Dukite and Surf House Dubai.

4. Ghantoot Beach
This doesn’t count as one of Dubai’s best public beaches, but at just a Dh100 for a day pass it’s one of the best private beaches close to Dubai. It’s also just over the border in Abu Dhabi but much, much closer to the city of Dubai than you might think. The Golden Tulip Al Jazira Hotel and Resort will give you access to the swimming pools, cafes and restaurants for just Dh100 a day. There’s also a watersport club, volleyball nets and barbecue areas.

5. Umm Suqeim Park Beach
Just up from Kite Beach Dubai is another stretch of public beach with great views of the Burj Al Arab Hotel. There’s usually a variety of pop-up food and drink stalls if you’ve forgotten your packed lunch.

However, it lacks some of the other facilities (washrooms, for example) more readily found at the other best beaches in Dubai. Even so, Umm Suqeim Park Beach is a nice family beach and worth it for the views. Tip: Opposite the beach is a small park with a little cafe where you can buy ice cream and get some respite from the sun.

6. Mercato Beach
In one of Jumeirah’s residential neighborhoods, there are plenty of smaller private Dubai beaches that can offer a break from the city. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of JBR Beach, Mercato Beach is a nice place to take a sunset walk or drip your toes in the sea. You should be mindful that it’s in a more traditional part of the city, an all-in-one should suffice.

7. Jumeirah Open Beach
While some of this beach has been lost to the Dubai Canal, it’s still very popular. It has some useful facilities – toilet and shower block, small drinks stand, picnic area – meaning it’s one of the best Dubai beaches for kids.

8. Riva Beach Club
This Dubai beach club is rather unique as it’s not attached to a hotel but is a private beach. Situated on the Palm Jumeirah you can buy a day pass (Dh115 for adults and Dh60 for children) and take a spot by the swimming pool or lay your towel on one of the many sun loungers on the beach.
