These books are very essential for you who want to go to school in the United States to become a fashion designer. Again, I share with you these fashion books because I used them all the time while I was in fashion school.
These Five Books Are
Book number one is called “Sewing for the Apparel Industry & Patterns for Sewing for the Apparel Industry Package” (2nd Edition)
This book is all about sewing and the overview in the sewing industry: The book provides you with many sewing vocabularies as well as tips and tricks on how to sew. The book also explains in detail how the fabric works for a certain style of the garment.
Book number two is called “Fashion Sketchbook” 6th edition by Abling, Bina (2012) Spiral-bound
This book is all about drawing fashion croquis as well as drawing clothes (garments): The book provides you with step by step on how to draw a fashion flat to a stylized fashion croquis. It also provides you with many tips and tricks about fashion drawings.
Book Number Three is called “The Fashion Sketchpad: 420 Figure Templates for Designing Looks and Building Your Portfolio”
This book is all about fashion poses. If you are like me not too great withdrawing your own fashion croquis, I recommend buying this book. It is very useful and not that expensive. The book provides you with many croquis poses that you can use for your fashion drawings.

Book Number Four is called “Patternmaking for Fashion Design” (5th Edition) and “Patternmaking for Fashion Design” (2nd Edition)
This Patternmaking book is all about making clothes pattern: The book provides you step by step from how to draft a basic pattern to draft an advance pattern. These are included: on how to draft a basic skirt, a basic top, and dress pants.
Finally, book number five is called “The Fairchild Dictionary of Fashion” 3rd Edition
This book is all about clothing definition as well as the fashion vocabularies which fashion design student must know. The book is well written. The book has so many useful fashion terms which are very essential to everyday usage.
