The Akin Park storm sewer improvement project is substantially complete. The Akin Park neighborhood had a combined sewer system that allowed storm water and sewer water to mix in the same pipes. To comply with the federally mandated consent decree, EWSU is required to remove as much storm water from city sewers as possible. The Akin Park project removed the equivalent of a 50 acre watershed from going into the sanitary sewer system.
