Cyclone Belna intensifying, a significant threat to Madagascar - 6am EAT Dec 6

Cyclone Belna formed yesterday north of Madagascar, and continues to intensify, now with winds of 80mph and an estimated pressure of 984mb. The intensification phase is expected to continue for several more days as the storm approaches Madagascar. The storm is likely to continue towards the south-southwest and potentially rapidly intensify on approach to Madagascar this weekend into early next week. Land impacts are likely to begin to be felt as early as tomorrow, up to 8 inches of rain could fall along the western coast and a Category 3 landfall is currently forecasted.
