Wondering how to motivate yourself to work out and crush your goals in the new year? In this video, I explain 3 methods that I personally use and have sustained my motivation for nearly 20 years now. I started working out when I was 15 years old and haven't taken any extended breaks (beyond 2 weeks at a time) and I'm currently 34 years old.
The key to motivate yourself to workout is a combination of these 3 tips:
1. Focus on intrinsic motivation
2. Use visualization to feel positive about your goals
3. Don't compare yourself to others
With those 3 simple tips, I've been able to stay motivated for nearly 2 decades. And the beset part is, the science behind how this works has been explained by experts in psychology and neurology. The human mind is very powerful and it all starts with good thoughts about yourself and your goals.
Intrinsic motivation (vs extrinsic motivation) means to focus on your own internal desires for motivation. We all have things we want to achieve, so focus on THAT instead of what people and other external forces are telling us to do.
Use visualization (similar to meditation) to see yourself in your mind achieving your goals. Feel the positive emotions that come along with the goals and absorb them. Do this every morning. This will in turn lead to better behaviors and better results.
And don't compare yourself to others! It's a bad idea. Instead, compare yourself to your previous self and try to break personal records.
I hope this video helps you! Don't forget to like and subscribe for more tips and to crush your goals in 2020!
