"Welcome to the family sweet baby girl!"
The couple's first daughter was born about two and a half years after they welcomed their first child, a son named Jackson, in 2017. The Roloffs' newest addition also comes after Tori Roloff shut down rumors she was expecting again a little over a year after Jackson was born. At that moment, though, People reported the reality TV star also revealed to fans,
"No one wants to see baby J be a big brother more than I do but let's wait patiently together!"
Well, the couple announced earlier this year that the wait was over, and they were expecting a baby girl. Since then, fans have likely been wondering what the couple's first daughter would be named. Good news you don't have to wonder any more. In the post announcing the birth, Tori also revealed the baby's name: Lilah Ray.
While Zach and Tori haven't yet revealed the reason they chose Lilah's name, InTouch reported that the couple had already chosen it in September, months before the birth. So it's safe to say that whenever they landed on the moniker, they knew it was the perfect fit.
Time will only tell if the Roloffs will give any insight into the decision making that went into Lilah's name. Considering the word "ray" is associated with light, it's an adorably perfect name for a baby girl who undoubtedly brought a whole lot of light into the couple's world. After all, they did tell People she was the, quote, "perfect addition" to their family.
But while the name Lilah was apparently agreed on well in advance, the Roloffs haven't always seen eye to eye when it comes to naming their kids. In a 2017 clip from Little People, Big World, Zach and Tori discussed names for their first baby. Zach revealed he's a fan of more traditional names, like "Jack," "Mike," and "Timothy." Tori, on the other hand, tends to prefer names that are more unique.
In the same clip, she even mentions the name Lilah perhaps doling out a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Jackson, while undoubtedly a popular name these days, isn't as common as the names it derives from, Jack or John. In fact, Jackson is most commonly a surname. According to The Chicago Tribune, though surnames have been used as first names for hundreds of years, the trend has been steadily growing in recent years.
While we don't know for sure what drove Zach and Tori to the name Jackson, the fact that Zach revealed he was a fan of the name "Jack" and Tori wanted a name that was a bit more unique, gives us a suspicion their son's name was the perfect compromise between the two.
Not surprisingly, spot-on naming seems to run in the Roloff family. In late 2017, Zach's twin brother Jeremy and his wife Audrey welcomed their first child, a girl named Ember. In an Instagram post celebrating Ember's first eight months, Audrey cheekily pointed out that her daughter's name was a play on her birth month. The caption reads,
"Melting hearts since SeptEMBER of 2017."
Cute as that is, wordplay wasn't the only reason the couple chose the name. The name "Ember" is not at all common and is obviously derived from the word that means "a glowing fragment from a fire." Good Housekeeping reported on the sweet reason the couple chose this seemingly random, albeit adorable, name: campfires have a special place in their hearts. Audrey said of the name:
She further expanded on the meaning behind her daughter's name in a separate statement, saying that she hoped the name played a part in shaping Ember's path in life.
Choosing a name is one of the most difficult parts of becoming parents, but it seems the Roloff family continues to get it just right when naming their newest additions. Watch the video to learn The Real Meaning of Zach and Tori Roloff's New Baby's Name!
