Types of Pillows There are 5 types of pillow infill materials
1. Feather and Down pillows
These pillows are made with the wing, back and down feathers of ducks and goose. The feathers are used to manufacture the pillows. These pillows are light in weight, cosy and fluffy and are the most expensive pillows in the world. However, it is cruel to pluck feathers from alive birds and some users are allergic to bird feathers.
2. Organic Cotton pillows
Cotton is an organic and sustainable material that is used as an infill material for the pillows. These pillows are soft and light in weight and are eco-friendly because they are free from toxic chemicals. Cotton pillows are resistant to mould and mildew. These pillows do not hold their shape and therefore the pillows need to be fluffed periodically.
3. Memory foam pillows
These pillows are made from polyurethane which is also known as viscoelastic foam. Memory foam pillows provide good support and contour the shape of the head n neck on the pillow. Some memory foam pillows have a layer of gel which has a cooling effect n the body. Since these pillows are made from chemicals, they release some gases for sometime which is known as off-gasing. Memory foam pillows get overheated due to the body's heat.
4. Latex pillows
These pillows are made from latex which is a sticky white fluid extracted from rubber trees. Latex pillows are soft and provide good support. Latex pillows are breathable and provide a cool surface. Latex pillows are anti-microbial in nature but are not suitable for people with latex allergy.
5. Synthetic pillows
These pillows are made with a synthetic filling material that is made with rayon or synthetic fibres. Synthetic pillows are soft and light in weight but these pillows flatten over a period of time .
