Video showing super fast and safe technique for impacted wisdom tooth removal under local anesthesia

This Is a complete unedited video of a patient on whom the upper impacted third molar is being removed. The maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Sunil Richardson is performing the surgery at Richardsons dental and craniofacial hospital, TamilNadu, South India. The patient was first given Local anesthesia by injecting lignocaine. This is a daycare surgery. The patient was on awake during the surgery which lasted around two minutes only. This technique relies a lot on the skill of the surgeon. It also is done more by palpating than by vision.

Why did the patient need this surgery?
This patient in her early twenties never had her third molars erupt, the reason being they were impacted. This upper right wisdom tooth was not seen or visible in the mouth. However, it is a potential cause of major trouble. It could get infected, or form a cyst or more commonly damage the second molar in front of it. To avoid these possible complications and to prevent a more complicated and potentially difficult surgery later on in the future, it was removed now.

Was the entire procedure for just two minutes?
Well, the surgical procedure was around 2 minutes as you can see in the video. However, before the Surgery, Xrays were taken, and a plan made by Dr. Sunil Richardson. Also, basic blood tests were done. The patient was prepared and before local anesthesia was injected, LA gel was applied and waited for a couple of minutes to reduce the pain of injection.

What is the recovery period?
The patient would be sent home in 30 minutes. It would be on rest for the day. It’s advisable. Later on, they need to chew on the other side of the mouth. The left side in this case. As resorb-able sutures were used, suture removal is not needed. Patients are called in for review if there is any concern after a week.
