If you want your beetle to smell like an original beetle. Buy the coconut husk seat pads. I don’t like that smell personally, so I’m using a cotton/burlap material to cover the springs. And foam for the padding This is just how I am doing it, you can build your seat anyway you want to.
It’s a curiosity about how the Germans started using coconut husk’s in their seats. People think it’s horse hair but it’s not. I believe it to be coconut husk. So, let’s think about this. Back in the 30s I guess? Or maybe when the Nazis took over and had bases in north Africa they were probably a lot of palm trees. If I’m not mistaken, the palm tree was Rommels north Africa logo. Maybe I’m wrong? Anyway, someone saw a huge pile of coconut husk’s, I would imagine from shucking coconuts. And thought Gee? What can we do with all this? I know! We can stuff seats with it, in automobiles. After all, it was free you know? Didn’t cost any money.
Maybe someone knows for a fact?
