Jon Boat & Mud Motor: Taking Out of Long Term Storage

Jon Boat & Mud Motor: Taking Out of Long Term Storage This video is to show you what I do after storing my jon boat and longtail mud motor for months on end. There's some information thrown in there, along with tip and trick of what not to do. Enjoy!

Main things to look at:

Trailer:
Tires - pressure and if they are dry-rotting and need to be replaced
Wheel bearings - make sure they are greased and ready to go
Lighting - brake lights, turn signals, flashers
Guide poles secured
Visually check over everything

Engine:
Oil - check levels and replace if needed
Fuel - check if fuel is still good or need additives
Spark Plug - make sure that still looks good.
Tip - when you plan on storing your boat, have your engine running, turn the black fuel switch off and let the engine run out of fuel.
Visually check overall wires, throttle connections, and visually inspect everything.

Longtail Mud Motor:
Grease up dem zerks
Check your throttle lever, cable, and connections on the engine
End play in shaft - check "in and out" play (there should be none = zero) and then check "up and down" "side to side" play. There can be a little. If it's excessive, then replace the flange bushing.
Make sure things that are supposed to move actually move and then things that aren't supposed to move don't move.

After all that, start the motor up, let it idle and run. Warm it up, blow it out.
Check the operation of your safety kill switch to make sure it works.

Make sure you have the extra props and parts to last you for the rest of the year. That would be back up props, prop nut, spark plug, keyway for the output shaft on your engine.
If you plan on going on really long trips, some extra parts that would be good to have would be a throttle cable, flange bushing along with some screws for that bushing that hold it in the shaft, and a back up PTO shaft for the kit.
