Spot Reduction: Fat Loss For Specific Areas | Fact or Fiction?

Spot Reduction: Fat Loss For Specific Areas | Fact or Fiction? Cronometer sign-up:

Spot reduction (fat loss for a specific area on the body) is a concept that a lot of people still believe in but it doesn't actually happen. Spot reduction is NOT a reality. The way the human body gains and loses fat is in a specific order on the body, and the only way to lose it is to consume a caloric deficit.

When you lose body fat, you lose it uniformly from the body, but some parts of our bodies have more fat than others. This is because men gain fat first on the abdomen and women gain fat first on the hips. So this means as you eat in a caloric deficit to drop body fat, the fat will appear to come off in the reverse order it was put on, with it leaving last from the lower abdomen in men and the hips for women.

I got questions over the holidays from friends and family asking how to lose "this belly" or "the fat on my arms" and I just couldn't help but correct them on how fat loss actually works. After the holidays were winding down, I decided to make a video about this topic because - let's face it - if a few people in my family circle were thinking spot reduction is real, I can't imagine how many of my subscribers must think this is a real thing too.

Thanks for watching! As always, please like and subscribe, and I'll see you in the next video!
