Health, the country's health sector is reeling from a serious shortage of blood, with some Kenyans even being turned away at local hospitals which have little to no blood supply. The shortage, sparked off by lack of testing reagents to screen the blood as a result of withdrawal of the united states presidents emergency plan for aids relief fund (PEPFAR) in 2019, which was the primary source of funding for this crucial role.
At the Bungoma county referral hospital the situation is dire, with residents even being forced to cross over into neighbouring Uganda to access medical care and blood.
