The Caloocan National Science and Technology High School Gender and Development Office (GAD), in cooperation with the Supreme Student Government (SSG) is eager to support One Billion Rising: From a Campaign to a Way of Life, the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence) in human history. This will be held on February 17, 2020 at the school covered area during the morning flag ceremonies, wherein students will be conducting a mass dance movement as a call to end the violence against women. There will also be a short talk and declaration of commitment to support this great call. The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. People across the world come together to express their outrage, to strike, dance, and rise in defiance of the injustice women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women. This year (2020), once again, OBR is set to escalate risings against all forms of violence against women – including a rising resistance against the systems that cause other forms of violence: imperialism, fascism, racism, capitalism and neo-liberalism – and will continue to highlight where all these issues interconnect.
