Patients with communication disorders are at risk for receiving paternalistic care and are often the receivers of stereotyped attitudes and behaviours. Even well-intentioned nurses often forget to provide compassionate care due to mundane daily routines that become mechanicalistic in nature. Health care providers who take the time to get to know their clients can provide care that better addresses the needs of clients and improves their quality of care.
What would you do in this situation?
