The Heart Beats First

The Heart Beats First This piece starts with the heartbeat of my son, Alexander Stephen Gibson, taken with a doppler at my wife's 30-week pregnancy checkup. The heartbeat acts as an ostinato rhythm background for the rest of the music. Some of the piano part is reminiscent of the Michael Giacchino's "Bundle of Joy" which is the first piece of music that he listened to in the hospital but made faster to match the tempo of the heartbeat. There are also aspects taken from "Home" by Phillip Phillips and "Hello" by Adele both of which at some point and in some fashion offer appropriate sentiments to bringing home a newborn baby. There is also some instrumentation and melody taken from another piece of music that I wrote as a love song to my wife. At the date that this is being published he is exactly one month old.
