Character Design #19 - Apollo | Real Time

Character Design #19 - Apollo | Real Time Welcome to another episode of Arty Alex. Today we'll be drawing Apollo, a special forces HALO jumper who has just landed. I start by using a reference photo for the pose. Often times, I'll go on Pinterest for ideas on subjects that I don't know much about, such as the helmet, monocular, and the parachute harness.

Once I had a good base sketch, I began to add little details to the drawing like the breathing mask Apollo is wearing, the knife in the boot and the pocket around his thigh.

I was going for particular aesthetic when I used the crosshatching. Throughout drawing this entire piece, my focus was on getting more narrative into a single picture. So I drew the parachute and cliff, and added cracks to the cliffs.

I didn't want this to be a colored piece, but I felt the sky had to portray night time. I was tempted to color the ground as well. But I fought the urge.

I used a Pigma 0.3 multiliner, and a Prismacolor brush pen on Toned Tan sketch paper (400 series) by Strathmore
