This is a wish people have had for a long time, but certainly since the addition of Paths, that can kind of be split up into three things...
1. Positioning
1.a Improved handling of where an item (Monster/Structure/Decoration) is suggested to be placed. If you're viewing your Island on the left and there's plenty of space for the item there, then why on Earth is the game taking you elsewhere and suggests placing it there? Now you just have to scroll back to where you were.
1.b After you place it, why is the next suggested place not immediately adjacent? Why does it hop like a knight in Chess? Weird!
Presume the above is improved - Items get placed roughly where you're looking, if possible, and the next suggested location is at least adjacent - and preferably in the same relative direction as the last, if using Buy More for Decorations (no Buy More for Monsters? Especially with Dipsters, that'd be nice, saves so much scrolling. Actually, why do we have to scroll back to the previously bought Monster at all? Remember the scroll position! Ugh, so many UX improvements possible.) - then...
2. Characteristics
2.a Remember the size and orientation (Flip) so that we don't keep having to adjust those.
2.b While we're at it, the size slider has big (-) and (+) button. Why not make it so that tapping those immediately sets it to smallest/largest? Using the slider you can miss the actual largest size by just a smidge and now your paths look ever so slighty off.
Okay, so that's placing them where you want them and in the size/orientation you want them.. yes, there's many more complex methods possible, but this should save sufficient time without having to think of completely new decorating mechanisms; just improving the existing ones.. that leaves
3. Adjust/remove multiple
3.a (there is no b) Make it easier to move/adjust/remove them. Especially for Paths. Add an option to select/deselect multiple (just tapping each to select/deselect) so we can simply move, adjust (size/flip) or remove them as a group. Sometimes you just have to start over, and having to individually remove a hundred+Path tiles is a pain in the behind 😅
