After a motoring incident, the last thing you want to be worrying about is your cover. So it’s important to check your documents as soon as your policy starts - and let us know if anything’s not right. Then keep up us up to date with any changes, so you can know exactly when you’re covered, and when you’re not. For example...

...let us know if you have a new address, job or name - or any other details that may have changed. Luckily, it’s easy to keep us in the loop by calling, or logging in to MyAccount, where you can add other drivers, change your car, request Green Cards and plenty more, without hassle.

It's also important to make sure you're covered for how you're going to use your car. The most basic use is Social, Domestic and Pleasure, which is for everyday driving like seeing friends, going shopping or going on holiday. If you regularly drive to and from a fixed place of work, you’ll need to add Commuting to your policy. And you should add Business Use, for driving as part of your employment, to things like client meetings or other offices – but this won’t cover you if you’re making income from the journey.

To stay covered, keep valuables out of sight and locked away in your boot or glove box to help prevent them from being stolen. You should maintain your car in good condition to keep your cover valid, and of course, check your wheels and windows meet legal requirements and don’t forget that yearly MOT.

If your policy includes Driving Other Cars, remember you’ll only have Third Party cover – so you won’t be insured for any damage to the vehicle you’re driving. For regular use of a friend’s car, you should be added to their policy as a named driver.

If you’ve told us you park at home in a locked garage or driveway in your policy, but regularly park on busy street, it could be harder to make a claim - so be sure to park where you tell us when you’re at home, as often as possible.

You can check your policy, make changes at any time in MyAccount, or contact us with any queries, so you can drive safe in the knowledge that we’ve got you covered.
