4 WAYS TO ENQUIRE/INQUIRE THE LORD
enquire and inquire is that enquire is to be used for general senses of 'ask', while inquire is reserved for uses meaning 'make a formal investigation'.
1 “Sha’al” means “ask, inquire…inquire of consult”
relates primarily to asking God for specific guidance
ask (94x), enquire (22x), desire Psalm 37:4 (9x), require (7x), borrow (6x), salute (4x), demand (4x), lent (4x), request (3x), earnestly (2x), beg
2 Darash” means to “seek, consult, inquire of…seek GOD in prayer and worship”.
“Darash” can relate to seeking God’s guidance or seeking God Himself.
Psalm 53:2 says: “God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.”
3 “Baqar” means “inquire, seek” and is used in .Psalm 27:4
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire BAQAR in his temple
4 Baqash” means “seek”.
Forms of “baqash” are used in relation to seeking God
Himself in
1 Chronicles 16:11: “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore!”
and in Jeremiah 29:139
: “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all
your heart.”
