In the homily on Friday, Msgr. Lincoln focuses on the Gospel message where our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, says there is joy and suffering for those who follow Him. Msgr. Lincoln explains the joy experienced by a Jewish wedding couple during the times of Christ, and how is was Jewish tradition for the the wedding couple to spend a week at the groom's parents house where the celebration of the wedding would continue, including the wedding guests who would visit the groom's parents house during the week. The wedding couple are treated like a king and queen, which is really a once in a lifetime experience.
The point Msgr. Lincoln makes is that the weekly celebration and the joy experienced during the week, for the wedding couple and the wedding guests, does not last forever.
In summary, Msgr. Lincoln exhorts the faithful to realize that the spiritually joyful moments and times on earth, do not last forever, there comes entwined with joy, the suffering, pain, and hardships, along the Catholic Christian earthly pilgrimage.
"Our Catholic way, boy has sure brought me joy. It's really, you know, we are so lucky. Frankly. The Catholic way brings joy. But at times it also brings blood, sweat, and tears. So Christ is saying to all of us, 'Are you ready for both? Are you ready for the Christian Joy? And are you ready for the Christian Cross?"
